In 1996, Alfredo saw the opportunity to illustrate the Kalevala with his own personal visual language he developed during the years. Eventually, after 7 years of illustrating the Kalevala in his free time, he produced a total of 218 drawings that accompanied all 50 poems of the Kalevala.

In 2003, from the 16th of June to the 30th of September, an exhibition was held in Juminkeko (The Information Center for the Kalevala and Karelian Culture).
